Writing a CV and a cover letter…

Your CV and covering letter is your chance to show an employer the best of what you’ve got. It’s about selling your skills and experience, and showing them you’re the right person for the job.How you write your CV and covering letter is up to you, but for me I wanted to give the company reading it a thirst for more, so I didn’t want to try and get everything into a piece of A4 paper as I didn’t want to run the risk of the reader getting board.

Plus side it always leave for good conversation at an interview or a meeting.

Creative cv

Next challange for me was to create and unconventional CV, simply a CV with with a bit of creativity.

I had several ideas ranging from

Playing cards // mug // desk tidy // patch work ball // top trump style playing cards // web based cv // dice // tshirt

At first I went with leaflet style cv (trifold) with custom envelope with laser cut lettering or embossed title,

Unfortunately this didn’t materialise due to the lack of knowledge on my part, I think I I was trying to run before I could walk.

I’ve been wanting to try and create an info graphic for a while so I used that. Style to create the CV based upon that.

With a mixture of type and image, the images where created using illustrator and the main bulk of the cv was created using indesign.

Once completing the CV I feel a lot more confident to try and have a go with something a little more technical next time, I would like to try and create a few more.
